RITES I is a multidisciplinary improvisational exploration created in collaboration with the experimental music collective GOM and the versatile performance artist, Mauro. Although the project was highly collaborative, it was improvised from start to finish, with each moment unfolding spontaneously through instinct and creative presence.

Filmed in black and white on analogue film using a Nikon F3 with a 50 mm lens, the project captures raw spontaneity. This medium fosters heightened awareness of gesture, sound, texture and space. Each frame becomes a still echo of transient creative energy.

The title ‘RITES I’ reflects the performative nature of the process – a kind of spontaneous ritual where sound, movement and image converge without rehearsal or expectation. Each act was ephemeral yet charged with a ceremonial intensity that could only arise in the moment.

Photographed in Porto using natural light, the images capture the fleeting nature of gestures and shadows, as well as the unrepeatable rhythm of improvised motion and sound. There was no staging or scripting, only presence, timing and the fluid choreography of intuition.
